South Africa’s app dev industry is currently receiving a major boost from a series of immedia training courses aimed at aspiring beginner and advanced developers. In light of this excellent response, the next round of training courses will take place at immedia’s head office in Umhlanga, Durban. The iOS Beginners Course will run from 7th to 9th November.

immedia CEO Anice Hassim says this exciting new programme is all about up-skilling local developers so that they’re empowered to become part of Africa’s app dev revolution. “The reality is that all you actually need to operate a post-PC aligned business is a brain, a laptop and someone to teach you and you can create an app dev competency.”

Presented by renowned Swiss-based mobile developer, consultant and experienced trainer, Adrian Kosmaczewski from Akosma Software the advanced training course drew a raft of positive feedback. Comments included; “Having delivered technical programming courses myself, I was inspired by the way Adrian adapted his training to suit the individuals within the class environment.” – Gijima Applications Developer IV: Systems Integrations Jannie Pienaar.

Gijima Technical Specialist Buhle Mabutyana commented; “Adrian was very good. I especially like the fact that he was so flexible when it came to the course schedule.” Building on this positive relationship, attendees will be able to keep in contact with Adrian for a year after the course for help on their projects.

Underpinning each series of training courses, is a monthly community evening aimed at spreading post-PC intelligence and awareness around the province. The first community evening held last month, included an overview of the current state of the post-PC space as well as the mobile ecosystems that immedia is currently championing via a range of new products. These include immedia’s just launched DStv Guide app for iPad. The event drew a range of delegates including marketers, developers and school goers such as the Grade 11 learner who came with his parents and stayed until 11pm to ask questions!

This month’s event focused on Africa’s potential to lead this app dev revolution, we demo’d the technology and techniques used in some of our upcoming apps, and we played around with Apple’s iPhone 4S personal assistant Siri.
